To get from Turman Hall to the DUC, there are two routes pictured here: one is short and direct (left), the other is longer and more indirect (right). So, which route should you take?

At a first glance the shorter route, which takes about 20 seconds, seems like the best choice. Besides there being a few cars and motorcycles neatly parked along the way, there are minimal obstacles. If it is raining, this route minimizes the time outside since you can exit Turman from the back entrance instead of walking all the way around the dorm. However, there is one feature that this route lacks: accessibility. | To go from Turman to the DUC via an accessible route, one has to take the longer route. To take this path, you would exit Turman from the front entrance and follow the signs marking this accessible route around the dorm and down the sidewalk along Means Drive. In about 2 ½ minutes, you would finally arrive at the accessible entrance to the DUC. While this route is accessible, it has the potential for many obstacles. This path is on a slope, so going to the DUC may be easier than coming back since the return trip would be uphill for the majority of the way. Also, if the weather is inclement, one would be completely exposed outside for a much longer time. |
Although it is helpful to have this accessible route to allow for all-around access, it is clearly a more difficult route to navigate.
